The Fall of an Empire
Suraknians—also known as Lizardmen—are usually tall and slender. Their bodies are covered in scales and their heads are relatively flat with an elongated snout. Their eyes are wide with slit-pupils, they have a forked tongue and some have ridges along their heads, back or elbows.
Suraknians are intelligent and ancient. They once controlled nearly all of Vulterra, before the the War of the Locust occurred and the Imperial Hive took most of the continent. The reptilian creatures revere magic users and anything arcane. After losing the war, they were forced to slink back to their homeland in the Marshes of Stirauk, where they have resided for eons since. In that time, they warred with the inhabitants of the Terbur to the south and the Platinum Peaks to the north. They have expanded at a fairly steady pace, but have been at a stalemate for a few centuries now.
A Suraknian’s scales serve as both a tough, natural armor and a slight insulator to provide warmth to their cold blood. Although Suraknians have a forked, snake-like tongue, they do not use it to smell. They have functioning nostrils and have quite a good sense of smell. Scaly ridges along their brows help prevent dust and other particles from entering and their claws can act as a weapon if unarmed.
